JASPER COUNTY RECEIVES GRANT TO PURCHASE LAND FOR USA BMX TRACK
$750,000 GRANT ISSUED TO USHER IN USA BMX ENTHUSIASTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
TULSA, Okla. (Feb. 15, 2024)—Jasper County has received a $750,000 grant from the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism to purchase land for South Carolina’s fourth USA BMX-sanctioned race track.
Approved as part of the “Jasper on the Move” initiative that encourages Jasper County residents to be more active, the USA BMX track is expected to play a major role in promoting economic and recreational growth in the area.
“I am extremely pleased to have been a part of the process that brings $750,000 in funding to Jasper County in the form of a USA BMX bicycle park that will enhance the lives of our children and residents. This project will create both economic and recreational boosts to the community, bringing travelers from all over the region into our community utilizing local hotels, businesses, and restaurants,” said South Carolina Sen. Margie Bright Matthews. “I look forward to seeing this project completed and our residents and visitors utilizing the park.”
With the 2028 Summer Olympics taking place in Los Angeles, there has been an uptick in demand for USA BMX-sanctioned tracks in more American communities, said Justin Travis, Director of Business Development for USA BMX. Track construction typically has a four-year timeline from start to finish. The 2028 Olympics will be the first Olympic Games held in the United States since BMX racing's Olympic debut in 2008.
“We hear all the time from community members wishing for a USA BMX track in their hometown, so we applaud communities that are making that happen,” Travis said. “Everyone deserves to not only have the chance to take a spin on a BMX track but also to feel the strong sense of community USA BMX members have created, and grants such as this one make that happen.”
While Jasper County has not yet begun its search for suitable land to purchase for the track, county officials intend to start the process in the very near future.

About USA BMX
Established as the American Bicycle Association in 1977 and headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, ABA is the nation’s largest cycling organization with more than 70,000 members with combined racing and freestyle events at more than 300 sanctioned BMX tracks across North America and Canada. ABA empowers and elevates the early stages of bicycle development by creating opportunities through facility development, programs, and national events. As a result, ABA has developed a structured blueprint. A cyclist can progress from humble beginnings on a balance bike to becoming a BMX Olympian by establishing these roots.
Through STEAM, scholarships, freestyle amateur events, the national series, the Olympics and new facilities built across the United States, these four pillars under the USA BMX organization will impact young riders and families: USA BMX Foundation, USA BMX Freestyle, USA BMX Racing and ABA Ethos.
