Monster Energy Revives a BMX Icon: The Recon Tour Returns in 2025

Monster Energy is turning up the volume in 2025 with the long-awaited comeback of the legendary Recon Tour. After years on pause, the tour that helped shape the careers of some of BMX’s biggest stars is officially back — and it’s bringing the heat with a brand-new series of elite-level events.

Originally launched as a platform to spotlight up-and-coming BMX talent, the Recon Tour quickly earned its stripes as one of the most respected competitions in the sport. Now, thanks to Monster Army — Monster Energy’s elite athlete development program — the tour is returning with fresh energy, major opportunities, and the same commitment to pushing the sport forward.

A Tour Reborn — Powered by USA BMX Freestyle

Monster Army has always been about finding and fueling the next generation of elite action sports athletes, and the 2025 Recon Tour is a bold extension of that mission. This is more than just a comeback. It’s a reawakening — one that taps into the roots of BMX while offering today's riders a legitimate path to the next level. Now, with USA BMX bringing nearly 50 years of premier BMX event management to power the relaunch, the Monster Recon Tour is set to deliver a professionally-run, athlete-focused experience that honors the sport’s legacy while pushing it forward.

Behind the scenes, USA BMX Freestyle is making sure this tour runs like clockwork. The series includes three UCI-sanctioned stops where pro riders can earn international points and battle for a $4,500 cash purse at every event. From raw street style to park precision, each stop is designed to showcase progression and talent in its purest form.

The 2025 Recon Tour Schedule:

🗓️ May 17 – Dodson Action Sports Complex | Longview, TX

🗓️ June 14 – Premises Park | Tucson, AZ

🗓️ August 9 – The Dreamyard | Riverside, CA

Each stop features competitions in both Men’s and Women’s divisions across three categories:

  • Intermediate

  • Sport

  • Pro (UCI C1 – UCI license required)

Riders must be at least 13 years old to enter, and with each round sanctioned by the UCI, the tour offers a real chance to climb the international BMX ranks.

A Tribute to the Past, A Path to the Future

The return of the Recon Tour isn’t just about today’s riders — it’s a tribute to legends like Pat Casey, who helped define what this tour represents. From the grassroots to the global stage, this series is a celebration of everything BMX stands for: Progression, Community, Creativity, and Courage.

Whether it’s a full-scale indoor park or a backyard masterpiece like the late Pat Casey’s iconic Dreamyard, USA BMX Freestyle is making sure each venue hits hard and honors BMX’s core DNA.
